Vatican finds hundreds of millions of euros missing
An international team of scientists has found more than a thousand euros missing from the Holy See’s account system over the past year.
According to the news agency Interfax, about 200 million euros have been missing from the system over this period – more than 200 million euros or about one-third of the account.
An investigation has been launched into how the money was lost.
The scandal has put the Vatican under increased pressure after Pope Francis, during a meeting of bishops in September, asked bishops to invest바카라사이트igate how they could avoid the Vatican using a system which was linked to the bank account of a child abuser.
In October he also ordered that the Holy See’s own tax office be created as an investigative body, after a series of scandals over tax evaders, as well as abuse scandals.
The church has since responded with new legislation which is supposed to make the bank account more secure, by requiring that it hold all of the pope’s private finances and, thus, avoid having those which are “unwanted” released to an unknown third party.
Bishops are also to provide annual auditing which has taken place every two years.
